43rd Street Festival of the Arts (Sept. 13, 10 AM - 4 PM)
For the 34th time, Richmond's coolest annual art festival (and fundraiser for CARITAS) returns to Forest Hill. Limited to 75 artisans, it is a juried show of fine crafts and art featuring local and regional artisans. Free and open to the public, this popular neighborhood festival also offers food trucks (with everything from veggie bowls to empenadas and tacos) and live music: Tin Can Fish Band (11 AM), The Grateful Dads (1 PM), and Haze and Dacey (3 PM).
To see our brand new assortment of Forest Hill swag (including t-shirts, hats, and stickers), visit the Forest Hill Neighborhood Association tent. While you're there, stop by the neighboring CARITAS booth for this year's festival T-shirt and raffle tickets. The raffle includes beautiful, artist-donated items. And don't miss the chance to browse in 43rd Street Studios for pottery made on site, including new work in porcelain. It promises to be another vibrant, joyful festival -- see you there!
Another Fabulous Flyer!
The Fall 2025 issue of the Forest Hill Flyer should be hitting your doorstep within the next few days, featuring an interview with local artist Sarah Hand, a look at Southside's local bee sanctuary, and a cover story about caring for our tree canopy. Kudos to Editor Riley Champine and his team for another great issue!
Music in the Park This Sunday (3-5 PM)
Hopefully the beautiful weather will continue as we welcome Hot Seats to Forest Hill Park this Sunday, September 7. Whether you call it stringtime, old time, ragtime, bluegrass, country, or general freakout music, you're going to enjoy the unique sound of Hot Seats!
Next FHNA Monthly Meeting (Sept. 16, 7-8 PM)
After an August recess, we will resume our normal schedule of Forest Hill Neighborhood Association meetings (third Tuesday of each month) on September 16 at Forest Hill Presbyterian Church). Our City Council representative, Sarah Abubaker, will be on hand to give updates on issues affecting our city and neighborhood (including the Forest Hill Avenue Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project and Cherokee Road improvements). We will also discuss a proposal to invest in the battle against invasive plants in Forest Hill Park.
"Code Refresh" -- Feedback Due by September 28!
On August 20, a number of 4th District residents gathered at Zorch Pizza for an update on proposed new zoning codes from Richmond City's Planning Department. The City has extended its deadline for community feedback until September 28. To see an interactive version of the proposed zoning map, click here. Richmond Ready Alerts are a critical messaging system designed to keep those who live, work, and visit in Richmond informed about hazards or threats that could impact their safety. Residents and businesses located within Richmond City are encouraged to sign up for Richmond Ready Alerts to be sure they receive timely emergency notifications when alerts are issued. Alerts are issued to you by your geographical location and can be sent to your mobile phone, land line, and email.
