FHNA Meeting: Meet Forest Hill Resident and World Triathlon Competitor, Suzanne McWilliams!
(July 15, 7 PM, Forest Hill Presbyterian Church)
Suzanne McWilliams entered her first triathlon at age 65. After a decade of competition, she will be representing Team USA this October at the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals in Wollongong, Australia. Other items on next week's FHNA meeting agenda: A monthly crime and safety report from the Richmond City Police Department; City Council news from our 4th District representative, Sarah Abubaker; and a Q&A session with School Board representative Wesley Hedgepeth.
Cultural Heritage Stewardship Plan Update
At last month's FHNA meeting, Jennie Joyce -- Community Outreach Manager with Historic Richmond -- explained the status of the Cultural Heritage Stewardship Plan. Later that week, the Cultural Heritage Stewardship Plan Subcommittee met to discuss concerns and determine a course of action. The subcommittee plans to meet every three weeks, with the next two meetings scheduled at 1:00 PM on July 11 and August 1. Meetings will be hybrid, taking place at City Hall and online. There will be 30 minutes for public comment at each meeting. To attend either of these meetings virtually, click here.
National Night Out 2025 (Tuesday, August 5)
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Residents in neighborhoods throughout the City of Richmond and across the nation will lock their doors, turn on the outside lights, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Looking for a Few Good Herb Lovers!
This summer, the Old Dominion Herb Society (ODHS) is having several “Herb Garden Gatherings” at Maymont. All are invited to enjoy the Herb Garden and also learn about herbs and ODHS at Maymont Park. They will serve cool drinks, along with sweet and savory snacks. You can even snip some herbs to take home….

They will be working in the Herb Garden, so you might want to bring your garden gloves and join in. Please bring a friend and share your love of herbs!

ODHS is a small group that plants and maintains the Herb Garden at Maymont (for 48 years). Meetings include programs, speakers, and field trips on gardening topics, including the medicinal and culinary uses of herbs and other plants. The Maymont Herb Garden is located near the Hampton Street entrance, by the Old Stone Barn building (where the Welcome Center is located).
